So in all our previous posts, we spoke on how music overall has a positive effect on the mind, body and soul. While this is true for the most part, research has also revealed that the kind of music you listen to plays a major role in modulating the mood. Classical and meditational music such as gospel can soothe the mood, alleviate depression and overall has curative abilities. On the other hand, hardcore metal music, techno and the fast paced music that is commonplace today tend to all push the mood down.
It seems the brain’s response to sound is far more sensitive than previously assumed. Researchers who conducted studies on the relation between the type of music and how neurotransmitters change say that while the studies are not conclusive, a relationship between the simplicity of music and neurotransmitter levels arose. Classical music, gospel with less beats, more soothing frequencies pushed the anti-depressant hormone levels higher while techno and heavy metal music tend to push them down in nearly 65% of patients.
However, on the whole, it was noticed that music does elevate mood and reduces pain perception, the question really is by how much.
